Mmui's role under severe scrutiny

Newly-elected Premier League Committee (PLC) board chairperson, Spencer Mmui is under severe scrutiny after he replaced Mike Molefhe whose responsibilities were clouded in confusion.

Molefhe previously doubled up as the head of the Management Committee to facilitate a smooth transition from the old constitution, but was left in charge illegitimately for four years. The chief executive officer of the Botswana Football Association (BFA),  Duncan Kgame wrote Molefhe in April sternly warning him to take immediate steps to ensure that the 'anomaly' is corrected. The letter reads in part, "Whilst it is acknowledged that the Premier League Management Committee is in place it is noted that the chairperson of the committee should as per Article 10.3.2.7 be the Premier League Executive Director".

Article 10.3.2.7 of the BFA Constitution reads: "Appoint a Premier League Management Committee headed by the Premier League executive director provided that the Premier League executive director shall be appointed in consultation with the National Executive Committee".The letter also noted that it was anomalous that the chairperson of the League's Board was also chairperson of the Management Committee.BMC chairman, Sonny Phiri deputises Mmui. Extension Gunners' William Maboane is treasurer, raising questions as to what his role will be since the league already has a finance person in the secretariat.
