Groth is on the path to recovery

Karate sensation, Khaya Groth will know this week if he will resume training after three weeks on the sidelines due to injury. The multi-award winning karateka was given three weeks to recuperate after picking an injury during the Kofukan Open Championships last month. He suffered a hand injury after missing an opponent. He is supposed to see a physiotherapist today for further assessment.

Africa Youth Games karate team manager, Ezekiel Seru said Groth is expected to resume training on Saturday, but that will depend on the doctor’s report. Groth, a winner at the BNSC awards on Saturday, was initially taken to Gaborone Private Hospital (GPH) before his parents transferred him to South Africa for a second opinion.

Seru said the parents indicated that the South African doctor confirmed the same injury. He said it is a concern that Groth has been on the sidelines. “But if he is given more time (to recover), I hope he will still do well at the games, considering that he was perfect before he picked the injury,” he said.
