The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) is in the process of reviewing their financing model. The Commission is looking into coming up with a new structure of distributing funds to the affiliates depending on their performance at international competitions.

The move is being influenced by the ‘so called’ minority codes such as karate, swimming, athletics, chess amongst others at international stage. The codes have proved themselves over and over again that they are a force to reckon with but when it comes to the distribution of the pie, they get the smaller pieces. On the other hand, football always gets the largest share.

BNSC chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the idea of coming up with a different model was discussed some years back, but affiliates were against the idea. He said that was the period when Boyce Sebetela was BNSC chairperson. “The idea has been brought to the table, but it did not see the light of the day,” he said.
