MOLEPOLOLE: Music as a subject has been an integral part of modern day's education curriculum and also a better fit for extracurricular activities.
This was echoed on Friday as private education institution, Maru-a-Pula School donated a set of marimba musical instruments to a budding pre-primary and primary education provider, Heaven’s Rainbow Academy in Molepolole. The occasion saw one of the oldest private education providers in Maru-a-Pula collaborating with one of the newest established learning institutions to boost music education in the latter, Heaven's Rainbow.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Maru-a-Pula School head, Nicholas Evans said the two education providers share a vision of providing to children of all races, nationalities, and all faiths and this was the root of the partnership. He added that Maru-a-Pula is set up to be an inclusive learning community in a very similar way to Heaven’s Rainbow Academy hence the establishment of the partnership. Evans also said Maru-a-Pula’s donation is part of the school’s initiative to give back to the community programme. “We don't want our students to be separated from their community. We want them to be engaged with them because as the deputy director said the only way in which we can solve problems and support communities is by going to visit them, spend time with them, and being part of those communities,” he said.
“It is very important for us at Maru-a-Pula to do that today as an example of that and music, I mean, music is part of the soul and so if we can bring music to you and for you to have music when we aren't here as well that’s also a big part of why we’re here today. I am sure allowing any will testify to that and to the power of music, especially in education.” For his part, Heaven’s Rainbow Academy Principal, Ishe Gara said the school had underwent a benchmarking exercise at the leading private education providers and they were massively impressed by the music education setup at Maru-a-Pula. Gara said apart from music being a career option, the subject has proven to widen the learners' thinking capacity, forming a creative spark that is used to solve problems in other subjects and everyday human life.
Heaven’s Rainbow Academy director, Boitumelo Molapisi, lauded Maru-a-Pula for coming to the institution’s aid. She said Heaven’s Rainbow Academy was born on the backbone of providing special needs education and music has proven to be an integral part of special learners' education. Molapisi added that the donation would lift Heaven’s Rainbow Academy to greater heights as a pre-primary education and primary education leading provider. Heaven’s Rainbow Academy offers pre-primary education to primary’s Standard 5 education.
