Monageng Mogalakwe got it wrong

Botswana National Front Youth League (BNFYL) would like to condemn with the strongest possible terms the recent personal attacks on members of the political organisation by a certain Monageng Mogalakwe.

As the political movement youth wing, we did not want to be drawn into the personal attacks between comrades in the local media. In fact, we still do not want to be engaged with other party members through the press. We have, however, been compelled to respond to Comrade Mogalakwe's article in the Mmegi publication of 22 December 2010, not because he spoke of Cde Arafat Khan nor Cde Otsweletse Moupo. We should not be misunderstood to be coming to the aid and assistance of Cde Khan as a member of the Party Youth League let alone the former President Otsweletse Moupo. As the Party Youth wing, we are concerned about the message that has been carried across by the article.

It is apparent from the article that a certain class of persons of a particular standard of education is being ridiculed. Even though the article reflected Cde Khan as a discredited Form Two dropout who cannot contrast a readable paragraph in English, the truth of the matter is that Cde Arafat is not a Form Two dropout. What is so outrageous is the general picture painted by the article that seems to suggest that a certain class of people cannot write the kind of articles that Cde Khan usually writes. It is on this note that we felt compelled to respond to the said article in order to put the record straight.
