It didn't take long to obtain confirmation of my previously expressed view that there is not the remotest chance that the government will ever approve a Declaration of Assets Bill or indeed will ever propose anything similar itself.

The arguments can go on and on, but when the Vice President states that he wouldn't support anything that intrudes into his privacy, we can assume that Minister Lesego Motsumi's eventual Bill will directly reflect that emphatic concern. 

In other words, there may one day be some sort of a draft Bill, but this will be totally unrelated to Joy Phumaphi's original proposal and to all intents and purposes, be absolutely worthless. But if his reaction was more or less what I had expected, his qualifying explanation that,as with the opposition parties, 'the BDP also wants to be liked' seemed very much out of character.
