Amantle Montsho should stay out of politics

The Botswana Congress Party Youth League (BCPYL) is deeply distraught by Amantle Montsho's statements regarding her association with the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) when she should be focusing on her career and advancing the name Botswana internationally. Montsho should know that her support runs through the political divide.

The athlete is clearly campaigning for the BDP through the media. She should get the message that there is a difference between government and the BDP; she should not misconstrue government funded athletics programmes and rewards accorded to her as coming from BDP. The BCPYL is of the view that sportspersons representing Botswana internationally should focus on their careers and serve the nation as role models for children and aspiring athlete   and stay clear of politics.

The league further notes with concern that it is not only Amantle; it is a phenomenon across performing arts and sport whereby there is failure to distinguish between the BDP and government. In some cases it is a clear case of deliberate mischief to mix the two. Whether it is professional, casual or intramural, sports (performing arts in general) have been a great unifying factor in Botswana as it brings us together as a people.
