Police are investigating an incident in which a 22-year-old woman allegedly overdosed on various types of tablets in an apparent suicide attempt on Saturday afternoon in Ledumang, Gaborone. Broadhurst Police Station commander, Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae said they received the report of the attempted suicide from the victim's cousin after she received her message on her phone indicating that she wasn't well.

Lokae explained that after receiving the message, the victim's cousin rushed to check on her and found her unconscious next to a pill container and a note. She reported the matter to the police. "Police rushed to the scene, took her to Extension 2 Clinic, where she was treated and later released. We have handed her to the family to sit down with her to establish what could have caused her actions," Lokae said.

"We have yet to seek counselling for her so that she can deal with whatever troubles her and let go of her suicide attempts. In situations like this, we do not want to be quick to charge people but rather seek medical assistance on their behalf," he added. Lokae disclosed that the note the victim left read, "These pills here have given me peace I wanted in heaven."
