Following a historic regime change led by the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), which ended the Botswana Democratic Party's (BDP) 58-year rule, the nation is set to celebrate in blue this Saturday with cross-country festivities.

Advocate Duma Boko, the sixth President of Botswana, led the UDC at the 2024 polls to dismantle BDP's dominance of the general elections. The ruling UDC won 36 seats to form the new government, whilst BDP only garnered four seats. Botswana Congress Party (BCP) secured 15 seats to become the main opposition whilst Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) got five seats. Independent candidate Dr Edwin Dikoloti won the last seat.

Speaking at a media address yesterday, UDC spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa shared that they felt the need to celebrate the historic win and include every Motswana across the country as without them the regime change would only be a dream. The cross-country celebrations are expected to commence on Saturday at the National Stadium following the inauguration of the President at the same venue.

"We have done remarkable work. Batswana are happy and they want to celebrate with us. So this Saturday we will have the UDC celebration at the National Stadium where we celebrate with Batswana," Mohwasa said.

Taking into consideration the scorching heat that the country is experiencing, Mohwasa said that the celebration will be set for late evening to protect Batswana from the heat. He stated that he hoped the event would start by 5pm.

Mohwasa shared that the celebrations will not only be restricted to the capital city, as they were voted by Batswana in other parts of the country including in the diasporas.

"The celebrations will not be for Gaborone people only. We intend that these celebrations go to all the districts in Botswana. For example, if we go to Maun that means that we would have covered the whole of Ngamiland District," he said.

Mohwasa highlighted that this is a true reflection of a party that caters for all and will not be visible only in the city but also across the country.

Sadly, we live in a society that seems to be losing its moral fibre by the day. When parents take their children to a boarding school they do so to give them a brighter future, not to have some dirty paedophilic predator to prey on them. Sex orientation is a touchy subject and for young minds to be sexualised at a young age by a grown man perpetrating harm on them by cutting through their sphincter muscle to penetrate their anal canal. Anyone can...
