Two MPs Pledge A Week's Allowance To Debaters

Two legislators have been hailed for lending a hand in raising funds for the World Universities Debating Championships slated for December here in Botswana.

Speaking at a dinner held to raise funds for the championships in Gaborone over the weekend, Lesang Magang said Botswana Congress Party (BCP) leader and MP for Gaborone Central Dumelang Saleshando and assistant minister of presidential affairs Mokgweetsi Masisi pledged to pay a week's amount of their parliamentary sitting allowance. Magang said this is a commendable effort by the politicians who have also promised to persuade their fellow legislators to come to help the organisers of the debate championship raise funds that will "see Botswana host a successful debate tournament," he said.

Magang also said the championship will present a great opportunity for Botswana to show the world the great things she can offer, especially in the field of tourism and other sectors. He said the country will realize more than P10 Million in profits as the 1 300 participants from across the world will utilize services in telecommunications, transport, tourism, hotel industry and others.
