Suspect Claims He Stole After Blackout

Trust Mpofu from Zimbabwe said before regional magistrate Lorraine Makati-Lesang on Friday that he was invited by a friend to spend a weekend with him in Tonota when the incident occurred. He said that he spent the night at the club and drank beer until he lost consciousness. "When I regained consciousness in the morning, I decided to take the disco equipment that I saw in the club," he explained.

The 26-year-old Mpofu was in court for breaking into a nightclub in Tonota and reportedly stealing disco equipment worth P8,950 last month. He allegedly climbed on to the roof of Shashe club and forced his way in at night. He allegedly stole two DVD players, a Gemini disco mixer, 103 compact discs and two CD bags. During investigations, the police learnt that witnesses saw the accused carrying compact discs suspected to have been stolen from the club.
