FRANCISTOWN: A 35-year-old man from Borolong ward in Shashe Bridge village found himself in court on Friday for allegedly raping a 64-year-old woman.

As per the charge sheet, Keobakile Puso allegedly raped the complainant on March 31 in Block 3, Francistown.

In the second count, the accused allegedly robbed the same complainant of two cell phones valued at P3,100 and P60 on the same date and place. Keobakile allegedly threatened to stab the complainant with a sharp object during the robbery.

Prosecutor Gasemotho Pitlagano informed Senior Magistrate Thapelo Buang that the prosecution opposed the accused being granted bail and would call the Investigating Officer (IO) to explain their reasons. Asked if he had anything to say, Keobakile requested the court to urge the police to speed up their investigations because he had important matters to attend to. Keobakile added that he didn't object to the State's request for his remand.

Magistrate Buang then remanded Keobakile in custody as per the State's request. Keobakile will return to court on April 24 for a status report.
