Serial offender awaits jailbreak judgement

High profile alleged fugitive, Mandadi “Machana” Chibiya, will have to wait until July 28 to know whether he has convinced the Extension II Magistrate Court that his absence from prison was due to administrative failures.

The 52-year-old is alleged to have fraudulently broken out of prison in July 2012 and spent a year on the run in South Africa, from where he was extradited before appearing in court last month.

Charged with escape from lawful custody and multiple vehicle theft charges, Chibiya last month told Magistrate Joy Brown-Norman that then Regional Magistrate, Lot Moroka, was responsible for his absence from prison.
