Senior lecturer arrested for allegedly raping 18-year old student

The Botswana Police Service (BPS) have arrested a senior University of Botswana (UB) lecturer in relation to a rape incident.

The incident allegedly took place at UB premises and it involved an 18-year-old female student.

This was confirmed to Mmegi Online by BPS Spokesperson Near Bagali who was hamstrung to confirm the name of the accused. “We are investigating an alleged case of rape involving a lecturer and an 18-year-old. We can confirm this person is a lecturer,” he said.

The report was made to the police yesterday evening and the lecturer has since been arrested. Mmegi can also confirm that the said lecturer is a political figure of an opposition party.
