The family had come together to celebrate, prepared traditional food and beer for the occasion. However, the mood quickly turned sour when an altercation broke out between the nephew and his uncle. Though the exact cause of the conflict remains unclear, the confrontation escalated and ended fatally.
According to Senior Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae, District No.13 Officer Commanding, the victim was rushed to Bamalete Lutheran Hospital following the stabbing incident, but was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctors.
“The nephew was subsequently arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue. He is expected to appear before the Extension 2 Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday) for a murder arraignment," Lokae said.
The incident has left the Ramotswa community in shock, with many struggling to comprehend how a family celebration could turn into such a horrific crime. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
Meanwhile, Lokae pleaded with members of the public to avoid solving disputes through violent means. He revealed to have observed that people are quick to use offensive weapons when having a misunderstanding, fights that usually end fatally or with serious life threatening injuries.
