Private commits suicide at Village BDF camp

A soldier aged 28 stationed at Village BDF camp hanged himself in his wardrobe on Monday, police have confirmed.

Central Police station commander, Superintendent Mothusi Phadi said the incident was reported after the deceased’s colleague went to check on him and was instead shocked to find him hanging from his room’s wardrobe. “In the morning, as usual, his colleague went to his house so that they could go to work together. The colleague reported that he knocked, opened the door but was shocked to find the deceased hanging inside the wardrobe,” Phadi said. He said that the soldier was stationed at Village BDF camp holding the position of private. He said that investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish the cause of his actions.

“He did not leave any note concerning the horrific act, but from our investigations we have learnt that on Sunday the deceased had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend who also worked as a soldier and was stationed there. We suspect that his actions might have been influenced by the misunderstanding with the girlfriend but investigations into the matter are ongoing,” Phadi said. He said the deceased’s names are being withheld until his next of kin are all informed.
