A heavily pregnant woman, Kitso Mokonopi appeared before village Magistrate court this morning charged with the murder of her boyfriend.
According to the charge sheet, Mokonopi is accused of stabbing her lover with a sharp object at their home in Block 8 Gaborone last Friday.
Whilst details of the incident are yet to be shared with court, as the matter is still fresh, when asked by the senior Village Magistrate, Tshepo Thedi if she has anything to say, Mokonopi requested for bail citing that she has a doctor's appointment.
The senior Magistrate however, refused to grant her bail saying that the prison authorities will assist her in getting to the doctor.
The Magistrate further noted that the heavily pregnant woman is not a candidate for bail as since the matter is still fresh, friends and relatives of the deceased are still angered by the incident which puts the accused woman in danger.
The case returns for second mention 4th July,2023 where court is expected to be briefed on progress of investigations.
