Botswana police are investigating some Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) staff members alleged to be involved in illegal membership registration ahead of the second round of the troubled primaries. The BDP secretariat has confirmed the investigations and that the party’s central committee is aware.

The BDP staff members were caught red handed processing membership cards after the deadline for Bulela Ditswe membership registration had lapsed. The cards are said to have been processed at the behest of one of the parliamentarian candidates in Gaborone.  The second round of BDP primaries is expected to be held on November 30.

Sources at Tsholetsa House, the BDP headquarters in Gaborone, told Mmegi that investigations started early in the week and on Wednesday some staff members were called for questioning at the Naledi Police Station.
