A second supplementary voter registration will resume next week Monday.

According to a Government Gazette released this morning, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced that this time around the supplementary period will last only 11 days. “Notice is hereby given that the IEC has in terms of Sections 8 (1) appointed the period between 20th May,2024 and 31st May ,2024 (both dates inclusive) as a period to be a supplementary voter registration period in respect of all the sixty-one (61) constituencies specified in the first schedule,” the release states.

The decision comes after the just ended supplementary registration, which was only held at the IEC offices failed to attract the desired number of registered voters ahead of the 2024 General Election. The electoral body recoded a 38% significant shortfall in the target of registered voters. Currently the figure stands at 810 974 which translates to 62% of their targets. Botswana is expected to host its general election this coming October.
