A slow start to this week's sports news hunting and gathering gained pace when on Tuesday, the Botswana Football League (BFL) delivered a much-talked-about 'one-man judge' ruling on the fate of matches, which were due to be played on weeks 13 and 14 of the Premier League season.

The man behind the judgment, Charles McErick joined the BFL as chief prosecutor on May 2 and has had a busy time in his first two weeks in charge. He has already made two key decisions, which include reinstating Mochudi Centre Chiefs' points after the club was accused of failing to remit part of the gate takings to the First Division South committee.

Then on Tuesday, McErick delivered a judgment that became the dominant topic, particularly on social media. But who is McErick? According to information provided by the BFL, McErick is an "astute attorney with a comprehensive legal and practical knowledge in all areas of corporate-commercial law and with a niche in mining and minerals law".
