Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) central committee yesterday heard appeals from the highly contested Kweneng region.

The first appeal was from Kabo Sebele, who is challenging the decision of the regional committee. Sebele lost to Molepolole North Member of Parliament,  Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri and his protest was dismissed by the regional committee.  Also being attended to is an appeal  for Moeng Pheto, the MP Lentsweletau/Mmopane, who lost the Bulela Ditswe last December to Vincent Seretse.  Both Seretse and Matlhabaphiri did not attend the appeals as the regional committee stood in to defend their decisions.  On his appeal, Pheto said 6,000 members did not vote as their membership cards had been kept by the branch leadership.

He said his efforts to report the issue to the region and election officer did not bear any fruit.  He also accused some branch and regional leaders of campaigning for Seretse, hence his pleas to investigate the membership cards issue fell on deaf ears.
