The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) deputy treasurer, Thapelo Olopeng wants his political rival and deputy Speaker, Pono Moatlhodi, to face disciplinary action for publicly admitting that he wants to defect to the opposition.

Olopeng said the Tonota South MP should be sanctioned because it is clear he does not have the interests of the BDP at heart and that is why he is announcing in public that he is in talks with the opposition.

Moatlhodi is talking to the Botswana National Front (BNF) after his dalliance with the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) collapsed. The MP has been disgruntled after he lost the BDP primaries for Tonota South to Olopeng who says he received a tip about his plans to defect to the opposition before his public admission.
