A meeting of Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) youths in the north held over the weekend, has resolved that the party youth league be dissolved and fresh elections held.

The northern youth held a ‘strategic meeting’ attended by youth branch chairmen and secretaries, where one of the resolutions was the holding of a special congress to dissolve the current youth league executive and elect a new one. “During the special congress there should be election of the new national executive committee with fresh mandate as the current one is just stagnant. Also, that special congress should review certain clauses of our constitution which limit the presidential powers,” one of the resolution states.

The meeting also resolved to lobby a national youth conference where issues of youth development, policies and programmes could be addressed and leadership provided.
