The Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) national executive committee (NEC) has dismissed calls for a special congress stating that procedure was not followed when the request was made.

BMD chairperson Nehemiah Modubule confirmed in an interview yesterday that the NEC met last Saturday and reached that decision.

“It is true we met on Saturday and looked at the letters written by branches calling for a special congress. NEC had to check if indeed those letters were legitimate and the names of people who wrote them. Of course some were not because whoever wrote them did not state the name or contact. Some were authentic but the minutes attached were minutes from branch committees,” Modubule said.  He continued: “The minutes that the NEC recognises is the one from branch congress which is a constituency.”
