Newborn baby found alive in pit latrine, woman arrested

Woodhall police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 39-year-old woman of Ramotswa, residing in Lesetlhana Ward in Otse, was arrested for allegedly dumping her newborn baby boy in a pit latrine.

Confirming the incident, Woodhall Police Station commander, Superintendent Goitsemang Sekgabo, said the matter was reported by a 45-year-old woman who heard a baby crying late Saturday night.

“The complainant reported that whilst asleep at around 11:45pm, she heard an unusual sound of a baby crying from behind her house. Upon going outside to investigate, she discovered that the cries were coming from inside an unused pit latrine within her yard,” said Sekgabo.

Don't let FMD outbreak drag on
