The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) will hold a re-run of primaries in the whole Serowe North constituency on a date yet to be decided. The party's secretary general, Mpho Balopi, told Mmegi on Tuesday that the BDP was advised by its electoral board to do so.

At first, a re-run was recommended only for Patikwane Ward, but Ndelu Seretse – who is the Minister of Justice, Defence and Security and a contestant in the primaries – successfully protested the decision of the BDP Central Committee (CC) to have a limited re-run on the basis of Section Nine (f) of the party’s constitution.  “Where an irregularity has occurred or the process of election has for unforeseen circumstances failed in any polling station, there shall be a re-election in the whole ward if it were elections for a council seat, or a re-election in the whole constituency if it were elections for a parliamentary seat,” it reads.

Balopi said the constitution of the party was “loud and clear” on circumstances for calling for a re-run in the whole constituency.
