Police in Palapye are investigating two rape incidents that occured at Mmantshadidi and Mmaketlaletswe lands in the outskirts of Palapye, Saturday night.

Palapye police station commander Superintendent, Molly Lebala-Moduke said in the first rape incident a 58-year-old woman was violated by her boyfriend's friend in Mmaketlaletswe lands. The police senior officer also said on the fateful night, the victim had gone to the shebeen with her boyfriend who later in the evening went back to their yard to kraal goats leaving her behind with his friend.

The pair continued their night entertaining themselves by drinking traditional beer.

"Later at night when walking back from the shebeen the victim' s friend raped the lady and fled the crime scene. Investigations are ongoing to locate the known suspect who is still at large," Lebala-Moduke said.

In another incident, a 41-year-old woman was roused from sleep in an attack and raped by a 33-year-old known man.

"We have since arrested the suspect and charged him. He will soon appear before Palapye Magistrate's Court for a single count of rape," the officer said.
