GANTSI: A 12-year-old girl has been removed from her maternal home as police investigate reports that her mother beat her severely when the child accused the mother’s boyfriend of abuse.
Gantsi police station commander, Superintendent Modiro Lekone, told MmegiOnline that law enforcement removed the child from the home and handed her over to social workers while investigations continue.
He said they received a report that the mother had a tendency of beating the daughter whenever the child reported to the mother that the mother’s boyfriend was abusing her.
"We received a report that this time the mother beat the child to a pulp after she (the daughter) told her that she was being abused by her mother’s boyfriend. “The daughter then ran to the relative’s houses who reported the incident to the police," Lekone said.
The mother is said to be shielding her boyfriend and has instead accused her daughter of trying to destroy her (the mother’s) relationship. It is also alleged that the mother does not want to stay with her daughter anymore.
Police investigations continue.
