MAUN: In an effort to curb the spread of HIV, a project that aims to distribute 2.5 million condoms in the Ngamiland area has been launched.

The project, funded by the National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA) and coordinated by Ngamiland Council for Non-Governmental Organisations) (NCONGO) and Botswana Family Welfare Association (BOFWA), will be implemented over a seven months period.

According to NCONGO chief executive officer, Monametsi Sokwe, this first started in 2012 as a pilot project called “Taxi Talk” where free condoms were distributed to the population using a network of taxis in Maun. In the three-months period, over 30,000 condoms were distributed, resulting in a decrease in new Sexually Transmitted Infections in Maun.
