Mall expansion sparks council divide

A new mall in Jwaneng, initially expected to be welcomed with excitement, has instead deepened divisions amongst councillors following the awarding of a tender to MSDM Group. Whilst some councillors support the development, others have voiced strong opposition, turning what seemed like a straightforward investment into a contentious issue.

At the centre of the dispute is the mall along the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, which already hosts KFC and is now set to expand to accommodate additional retail outlets. Initially, the development occupied four hectares.

However, in a recent decision, councillors approved the allocation of an extra two hectares of previously undeveloped land after MSDM Group formally requested more space.

Don't let FMD outbreak drag on

Acting Agriculture Minister, Edwin Dikoloti, is right in saying opening an export-ready facility whilst Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is still spreading would risk getting the whole country blacklisted before a single carcass leaves the door.A ban like that would break the already stressed nation.
