MAHALAPYE: The floods that swept over Mahalapye earlier this week continue to claim lives as the body of a 15-year-old boy was recovered yesterday, while rescue teams continue to search for a 24-year-old man.

Assistant District Commissioner for Mahalapye, Collen Tubego, told MmegiOnline that some of the missing man’s clothes have been found, and the search for him continues.

Tubego said 28 houses were left totally destroyed and submerged in water. He noted that relatives of the affected families have provided them with temporary accommodation, while some of the families have secured alternative shelter.

“Of the 28 families affected, 24 received food baskets, while four families did not require assistance as they had other means of obtaining food. “The flooding was caused by the incessant rains that pounded the area for two days,” he said.
