Extension II Chief Magistrate Kamogelo Mmesi has taken a firm stance, declaring that she will no longer entertain any further bail applications from Onkabetse Mongwaketse, who stands accused of rape and issuing threats to kill.

Mongwaketse is accused of uttering chilling words to one Mmannana Mosarwa, saying to her that, “Ke tla go bolaya. Ke kile ka bolaya motho (I will kill you. I have killed before),” at Tlokweng in September.

The complainant then reported him to the police, fearing for her life.

He is also accused of sexually violating another woman (names withheld) last year on July 14.

Appearing before court last Thursday, the State, represented by Inspector Elsie Kgaodi, said the investigations are progressing well as only a few key materials are left behind.

“The investigations in the matter are moving well as we are still waiting for the social work report,” she said.

Kgaodi further applied that the accused be remanded in custody whilst the investigations carry on, as he has been denied bail before.

For his part, Mongwaketse pleaded with the court for freedom, pleading, “Can I please be granted bail whilst they are still waiting for the report?"

Magistrate Mmesi turned him down, “I have denied you bail. You can appeal my ruling at the High Court, and I have told you the reasons for that,” she said.

Mongwaketse is set to return to court on March 11 for a status update. The case continues.
