Two soldiers were struck dead by lightning at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) on Tuesday afternoon.

Public affairs and Protocol officer at Botswana Defence Force (BDF), Ben Ragalase confirmed the incident yesterday but would not disclose the names of the deceased officers saying their next of kin have not been notified. A soldier, who preferred anonymity said that the deceased had just left a parade with their colleagues when it started raining heavily. As others rushed to a nearby building to take cover the two continued walking in the rain, ignoring the accompanying thunder and lightning.

"Apparently they were arguing about a flower one of them had in his hands when the lighting struck them, just a few metres from a culvert. They died instantly," a source said.
