Khama off to UK on official visit

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that President Seretse Khama Ian Khama left yesterday on an official visit to the United Kingdom, at the invitation of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

President Khama will during his three-day visit call on Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace and meet with premier Brown and Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, the Minister for Africa, Asia and the United Nations, while Minister for the Armed Forces Bob Ainsworth, and Gerry Sutcliffe, Minister of Sports, are expected to pay courtesy calls on the president while in London.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement issued in Gaborone yesterday that Botswana and the UK have enjoyed excellent relations since the years of the Bechuanaland Protectorate evidenced by bilateral cooperation on a wide range of fields including trade, development, education ad cultural exchanges, health care, defence and security.
