Intrigue in the defence of the Kalafatis Four

The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and soldiers implicated in the murder of John Kalafatis are reportedly in disagreement over the legal approach to the case.

Military intelligence sources say BDF corporals Dzikamani Mothobi, Goitsemang Sechele, Ronny Matako and Boitshoko Maifala have developed mistrust for the military hierarchy and want to chart an independent legal course.

The four soldiers are accused of the murder John Kalafatis on May 13, 2009 at or near the Moonland Shopping Complex at the Extension 12 neighbourhood of Gaborone. They appeared before Justice David Newman at the High Court in Lobatse in October last year where they pleaded not guilty.
