Inmate stabbed in Mahalapye Prison fight

A 33-year-old prisoner is under observation at Mahalapye Prison Hospital after he was stabbed with a sharp object by a fellow inmate following a fight on Friday night.

Mahalapye Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku said the prisoners allegedly fought on Friday night at around 9pm but the matter was reported on Saturday morning. "We have arrested a 25-year-old man, also a prisoner, and charged him with unlawful wounding. "The victim who was stabbed in the ribs was treated at Mahalapye Prison Hospital and later referred to Mahalapye Prison Hospital for further medical treatment.

He is currently hospitalised at Mahalapye Prison Hospital in a stable condition," he said. Ranku stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish what the fight was all about and how the suspect managed to get hold of the sharp object he used to commit the offence.
