A chilling tale of alleged prison brutality has emerged from behind the high security walls of the Mahalapye Prison where inmate Kgomotso Sekerese, has launched a legal bid against government.

In the lawsuit, Sekerese is demanding P4.5 million in compensation for what he describes as a life-altering, brutal assault at the hands of prison wardens. Currently serving a 10-year sentence for defilement, he has issued a statutory notice to both the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services and the Attorney General, detailing claims of physical torture, medical neglect, and prolonged suffering all of which he claims have left him permanently disabled.

Giving an account contained in the notice, Sekerese recounts the events of February 5, 2025, saying that shortly after receiving his morning meal he was ordered to join a prison parade.
