IEC ready for F/town West elections

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it is ready to hold Francistown West Constituency by-election over the weekend as there is nothing barring them from doing so. IEC spokesperson Maroba Osupile told Mmegi that they are ready for elections unless a writ of election is withdrawn.

“We are not intending to postpone those primary elections. The writ of the by-election is still in force,” he said.

With the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) having just lost yet another legal battle, the competition is between Botswana Congress Party’s (BCP) Dr Habaudi Hubona, Shathiso Tambula of the Umbrella for Democratic Change, an independent candidate who lost in the BDP primary elections Kago Phofuetsile and another independent candidate Joseph Mabutho.
