Hunger stalks South East district

Most farmers will return from their farms empty handed thanks to the poor rainfall and the heat wave. This is according to the recently released South East District Council (SEDC) Drought Household & Food Security 2015/2016 Assessment Report. Staff Writer TSAONE BASIMANEBOTLHE analyses the report

According to the report, the ploughing/planting season normally starts in October. However, ploughing/planting operations were delayed this season due to the late rains, which only came in the first week of December. During the 2014/2015 cropping season, ploughing/planting activities started in the first week of November.

This comes hardly after government dispatched its team to assess the drought around the country. President Ian Khama last year declared a general countrywide drought, the first since the 80s.
