Health unions rally communities, gov’t

With Botswana recording high COVID-19 infections and related deaths, the nurses and doctors unions are calling on communities to join in the fight against the pandemic. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the country has recorded 4,008 new positive cases for the first time and the number of the deceased stands at 1,328.

The two unions, Botswana Nurses Union (BONU) and the Botswana Doctors Union (BDU) believe that the fight against COVID-19 should be led by the community as was the case with HIV/AIDS. The union leaders believe that the reason why the country seems to be failing is the lack of involvement of the community to be at the forefront in the fight against the pandemic.

They believe the country managed to control HIV/AIDS because the community took ownership in the fight against the disease.
