Evangelical Lutheran church fires pastor

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Botswana (ELCB) has withdrawn ordination and terminated membership of Pastor Thabiso Segatlhe with immediate effect. Segatlhe and his church had a fallout backdating to 2010.

However, Segatlhe did not take kindly to the decision and continued with his pastoral position despite having lost a case in which he challenged his suspension in 2011. This week, the ELCB church council was busy filing interdict papers with the intention to block the fired pastor from using their church buildings.  Reverend Kedibonye Botlhole is replacing him.

In withdrawing his ordination, Bishop Mothusi Letlhage said, “In September 2010 you were called for discussion with the church council about your pastoral role at the Ramotswa congregation but you refused to talk to the church council. And furthermore, the church council had written you several times to which you failed to respond to any of the letters.  It was also recalled that in the month of January 2011 you were suspended from pastoral work for a period of three years by the church council and you didn’t comply.”
