Dr Sayana comes to the rescue

FRANCISTOWN: Former Jubilee Hospital superintendent Dr Veera Sayana and his wife have recently opened a Senior Citizens Free Health Clinic in Francistown.

A member of the Nyangabgwe Hospital Advisory Committee, the 73-year-old Dr Sayana says that only those who are 65 of age years and above will benefit from this gesture of compassion.  The clinic for senior citizens, which will operate only on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm, will not treat chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes etc.

Dr Sayana feels that after working with the community for such a long time, he should give something back to the people as well as  supplement governments efforts of providing affordable medical attention. The 65-year old age group was chosen because this is the retirement age after which, without the benefit of any earnings, the person's options for medical treatment are limited.  Dr Sayana advises those coming from outside Francistown to consider the transport costs and possibly continue using government facilities in their respective areas. Dr Sayana, who holds a Masters Degree in hospital management, was Jubilee hospital superintendent for 11 years. He was also involved in the planning, execution and building of the Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital. He is a member of service organisations such as the Lion's Club, Sri Sathya Seva Organisation of Botswana based in Francistown.
