Despite a low turnout at the weekend's Sarona Kalahari 1000 Race, police have commended the spectators who attended for their good conduct throughout the event.

The motor racing event, which took place over the weekend, was a quieter affair compared to previous 1000 Desert Races, popularly known as Mantshwabisi, which used to draw large crowds and often resulted in numerous crime incidents.

No.14 Assistant District Officer Commanding, Superintendent Elias Malope, said they had prepared for an influx of people with officers deployed along all major routes leading to the race venue as well as within the vicinity of the event.
