COVID-19 ‘de-greases’ wheels of justice

Three years later, COVID-19 effects are still felt everywhere. The courts of law have not been sparred either as now the wheels of justice have been de-greased and are moving slower due to backlog of cases attributed to the pandemic.

According to statistics, more than half of all cases have not been resolved.

Speaking during the opening of the legal year this week, Chief Justice (CJ) Terrence Rannowane said despite Botswana doing well in world rankings, the case disposal rates for courts could have been better had the justice system not contended with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
