Gaborone city councillors are contemplating passing a motion of no confidence against their mayor with contention that he is failing to perform. The councillors include some from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and others in the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Despite their desire to oust the mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe, the odds may be against them.  The team, which is anti-Thutlwe, needs to have two thirds of the majority.

Councillors could be forced to rely on the Local Government Act since their standing orders are silent on the issue of the motion of no confidence.
