Chief Justice threatens legal action on 'forum shopping'

The Chief Justice Maruping Dibotelo has threatened those involved in forum shopping (choosing judges) will be arraigned before the courts and that an investigation into the practice is underway.

While pleading with the Law Society of Botswana not to go public about the cases still under investigation, Maruping observes that the legal profession had to be cautioned against the underhand act as it was compromising the profession.

The letter, dated November 8 2013, was in response to the Law Society's earlier one demanding an apology from the Chief Justice for accusing lawyers of engaging in forum shopping or face prosecution.
