Salary negotiations could be delayed for a longer period, as the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU), is yet to submit its membership figures for determination by the Public Service Bargaining Council (PSBC).

The union has written to the council that it would not meet the July 22, 2016 date for submission of the membership figures to the council, as it needs time to audit its books.

A letter dated July 13 written by BOPEU general secretary Topias Marenga says, “In the aforesaid letter, you suggest the format to be used in submission of the trade union membership. In our view the format suggested can only be clothed with some form of legality, if it is in compliance with article 2.5 of the PSBC constitution.”
