BNFYL to reignite floor-crossing bill

The Botswana National Front Youth League (BNFYL) says they will lobby for the re-tabling of a bill to regulate floor crossing by Members of Parliament. Addressing media yesterday, BNFYL president, Khumoekae Richard said defectors were self-serving and forgot the mandate given by their voters.

The youth league was responding to the recent defection of Okavango MP, Bagalatia Arone, who moved from the Botswana Congress Party to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party.

Debate on floor crossing has flared up in Parliament over the years since 2004, with some parties pushing for a law that will force a defector to leave their parliamentary seat behind when they cross to a new party.
