BCP, BNF on fringes of collapse

FRANCISTOWN: Proposed opposition cooperation talks between the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and the main opposition Botswana National Front (BNF) appear to have collapsed before they even started.

Contacted for comment yesterday, BCP secretary general, Taolo Lucas, said "all indications are that it will be very imprudent if not unwise to venture into co-operation talks with a party leader who does not have a mandate from his party or specific proposals on such cooperation could work out especially after the BNF has made it clear that it wants to go at it alone in 2009".

The BCP man explained that it is also unwise for the BCP to engage in any cooperation talks with a party that is so deeply divided.
