BBS Bank is eyeing to boost its business landscape through the involvement of the Chinese Business Community in Botswana.
BBS Bank recently hosted a gala dinner for the Chinese Business Community in Botswana in a bid to make them aware of the existing and refurbished products and services. Speaking at the gala dinner, BBS Bank's managing director, Pedzani Tafa, said the Chinese community is an integral part of the BBS Bank's growth and the development of the country at large. The bank is one of the oldest financial institutions in the country, with operations beginning in 1970, and was licensed as a commercial bank in October 2022. The institution's services then included, among others, savings and provision of loans and mortgages. BBS Bank has, over the last two years, shown significant growth, and Tafa said is looking to foster relationships with several business communities, including the Chinese community, in a bid to further grow the banking institution. "We will like for you to maintain accounts with BBS Bank. We would like that as you invest in Botswana, BBS Bank becomes your number one bank. Simply put, we would like to become your bank of choice," said Tafa.
For his part, BBS Bank's head of treasury, Rebatho Moilwa, said with the BBS Bank becoming the first indigenous bank, the Chinese business community in Botswana would aid in boosting the economy by investing with BBS Bank. He said the bank has recently launched redesigned business banking packages that include business overdrafts, business current accounts, as well individual business and personal current accounts. Moilwa said BBS Bank's treasury is resourced with enough cash available for the clients' daily transactions and has said the bank has always met its service obligations in these transactions. He further unveiled the Foreign Exchange (Forex) services as he said these are vital for the Chinese Business Community in Botswana in business operations in and outside Botswana. "We use well-known payment systems, and since we became a commercial bank, we also built the local payment hub, having becoming a member of the Banks Association Botswana. All this is to enable a swift transition of funds should you want to take money or money out of the bank," said Moilwa.
